High Hops

For a creative brief module, I completed in my 2nd year, I created designs for a beer range where I needed to create three alternative designs that resonated with London Culture.

The Brief/Company Profile:
Want designs for a beer range; beer cans and bottle labels
Needs to be attractive, eye-catching, colourful and intelligent, creatively fun and to reflect the identity and culture of the brand
They NEED a logo
They want three alternative designs
Want it to be called “High Hops”
Ideas for slogans – “Elephant Brewery
– Where high hops meet high art”
– “High Hops – the designer’s triple”
Target Audience – 18+

I first started out by creating a moodboard where I found existing beer cans and bottle designs to give me inspiration and find out what some of the trend designs are that I could use on my designs. I found that most of these designs used colourful layouts in order to keep it eye catching for the target audience as well as used bold text in order to stand out and show what the beer range was called in order to get their name out there. I then proceeded to create a mind map to help develop my idea of what I wanted to create. I explored the theme of London as this is where the Brewery is based and decided to make the design link to that. I also explored ideas such as typography and a colour scheme.

I proceeded to sketch ideas that would help start create these label designs. I started by sketching out designs such as London buses and buildings in order to keep with the theme. I also played with the style of the typography as well as the layout to try make it interesting.

Idea 1 is what I first created and I liked this idea the most as it is quite simplistic and stands out well as I have combined the name of the beer range to the skyline of London. This worked well as the main title and going back to the moodboard most the beer labels had text that stood out.

Idea 2 and idea 3 had similar ideas in which I use famous characters or people such as the Queen or Sherlock Holmes in my design to relate to the London theme. However I liked idea 2 as it explores a psychedelic look which I think stands out.
